Work Ethics

Good work ethics are very important to an employer when looking over prospective employees. They will not only want to see demonstrable signs of a good work ethic on your resume but will ask questions during the interview to get a feel for your true work ethics. Your resume will list your educational and experiential background but it's by reading between the lines and talking to you that the employer will decide if you have good work ethics or not.

Work ethics involve basic character traits that reveal a lot about who a person really is. They include such things as honesty, integrity and accountability. Work ethics not only cover how well a task is completed but also the spirit in which it is completed. Employees who work with a great attitude, use good communication skills and show respect to those around them are worth their weight in gold to an employer.

Employees with good work ethics have had the value of hard work instilled in them. They always give their best to any task and work well with a team. They are always thinking about the good of the company and how they can best represent it. No wonder employers are looking for those with good work ethics!

What Makes a Good Employee?

Obviously employers will look over your resume to make sure you have the education and experience needed to properly do the job they are thinking of offering you. When they schedule you for an interview, they are looking for other, more intangible qualities. They see many resumes with similar skills so, although these are important, they are rarely the deciding factor in choosing a potentially good employee. So what are the qualities employers want to see in prospective employees?

Topping the list for most employers is the reliability of the worker. They want to know that you'll show up for work every day and on time. Companies lose a lot of money trying to cover for missing employees and trying to catch up to schedule around tardy staff members. Following reliability, employers often mention that they want their workers to have a strong work ethic. Reliability is a part of a good work ethic but it also includes putting in your best effort on every task, following up and completing the task.

Good communication skills, enthusiasm and showing initiative are also qualities that will be watched for in the interview. Showing a positive attitude and sincere enthusiasm for the company and the job at hand is a very attractive thing for an employer. Being articulate and personable while remaining professional during the interview will impress the prospective employer as to the level of your communication skills.

Helping clients learn the interview skills they need to highlight these desirable qualities is just one of the services that you can find at RDG Careers. Is this an area that you could use a bit of assistance with? Can RDG Help You ace that important interview?
